New Zealand Herald Office, Saturday afternoon. The Customs receipts* to-day were £235 3s 7d. The following are the amount of duties collected by the Customs at the Port of Auckland for the week ending January 18, 1879 :— Duties £3,050 1-1 2 Light dues 38 11 4 Merchant Shipping Act fee 3 .. 10 14 0 Arms Act fees 5 7 0 Otber receipt 333 7 G £3,443 14 0 SHEEP FAIR. Messrs. Hunter and Nolan held the first alieep fair of the season at the Juuction Sale Yards on Saturday, but it could hardly be considered to be even tolerably satisfactory, for prices ruled low, the competition was by no in«ans brisk, and out of the lots catalogued a considerable number were withdrawn. Owing to holders being so busily engaged harvesting, a j much smaller number were catalogued than i last year, and there is a prevailing disposition in stock-owners to direct their attention to cattle i rather than sheep, consequently neither supply nor demand was calculated to give the auctioneer satisfaction.
