UNITED PUMPING ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the directors of the Thames United Pumping Association and members of the County aud Borough Councils of the Thames was held yesterday. Dr. Campbell presided. A letter from the Thames County Council, containing the following resolution, was laid before the mooting: —"That frequent representations having been made to the companies interested in prospecting as to the necessity of the drives carried on by this Council being availtd of by the companies by prospecting, and such representations having had no effect so far a3 the south drive is concerned, it is considered advisable to discontinue that drive." A considerable dis•ju.ss.ion ensued, and the following resolutions were arrived at:—"That it appears of the first importance that the arrangement under which ttie southern drive was undertaken slioukl be continued, and the drive pushed on with all possible expedition, in order to drain the mines on the Waiotahi (Waio-Karaka) tlat. That this meeting fully agrees with the County Council that the several mines interested should properly prospect all reefs out in the drive which afl'ord a fair prospect of success. That, as a difference of opinion appears to exist a3 to whether any such reefs have been cut, a proper investigation and enquiry should be undertaken in order to settle the point. That such investigation and enquiry should be undertaken by three persons—ono to be named by the County Council, one by the l'umpiug Association, and a third by the two so appointed. That on receiving the report of the persons so appointed, another meeting be held to determine the course to pursue to enforce such prospecting as may be recommended."' A copy of the resolutions was ordered to be forwarded to Mr. Brodie (the chairman of the Thames County Council), Messrs. Baguall and Thorburu (members of the Thames County Council), Mr. J. lleid, Thames Borough Council), Mr. K. Workman (director Golden Crown), Mr. W. Rowe (L J rincuss Imperial), Mr. iSrigham (Tookey), Mr. C. B. Stone (VVaiotahi), Mr. Lennox (Caledonian), Mr. Whitaker (Imperial Crown). —Dr. Campbell presided. —A meeting of the County Council will be held next week, and the whole matter will be taken into consideration. Onesihemesuggested was that the Caledonian, Golden Crown, Manukau, Cure, and Waiotahi Companies should unite in pushing in a drive on one of the reefs up the Waiotahi Spur from the 010-feet level to the defined belt of gold-bearing country, as the present drive, being chiefly for drainage purposes, does not extend to that region. It is estimated that the projected drive will have to be extended 600 feet to reach the golden belt.
