THE GOLDFIELDS.
[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDKNT.] Coromandel, Tuesday. Kapanc.a Mine.—The underground development of this property has been carried on in an extensive scale lately. The drive extending ou the reef north from the waterwheel winze, struck the Albion shot of gold a few days since 300 feet from the surface, at a distance of about 300 feet driving. This golden region was well known in the early days of the mine, as the Old Golden Point ground, from which some magnificent hauls of specimens were obtained, and the ground was extensively worked before the discovery of the south or Coromandel shot. Some very good specimen stone has been obtained in driving on the reef. The reef is large, and shows well for gold. This company are now opening out on the reef on the two principal shots of gold, in six or seven faces, and have employed a considerable number of hands underground, which is estimated to keep the battery continually crushing from this time forward. Some alight breakages happened to the machinery last week, which were speedily repaired, and little delay occurred in the underground works.
