BENEFIT SOCIETIES.

The annual meeting of the members of the Prince of Wales Lodge, No. 20, Protestant Alliance Friendly Society of Australia, was held in the Karaka School-room, Mackaystreet, Shortland, on Wednesday, Jan. 30. There was a large attendance of the brethieu, who cvinced a lively interest in the proceedings. The following were installed as officers for the ensuing term by the D. D.G.M., Bro. Charles Joynt:—P.M., William Plant; W.M., B. T. Doaglas; D.M., George Bashan; Secretary, H. ■* H. Wrigh t (reelected); Trearurer, Joseph Saunders; Chaplain, F. B. Bntler, (re-elected); S.K, Wm. 13 cln tosh; JE., W. T. McCormack ; 1.G., A. Sherlock; 0.G., W. J. Sherlock; Auditors, J. H. Jpfferson and J. P.Jones; Medical Officers, Drs. Perston and Payne. The annual meeting of the members of the Auckland Branch of the H.A.C.B. Society

took place on Dec. 27. There was a ful attendance of members. Tlie following were elected officers for the ensuing term T. H. White, President ;■ E. F. Kelly, Vice President; M. Connolly, re-elected Secre tary; Jaa. Clarke, Treasurer; P. Lynch, Warden; .T. O'Hara, Guardian; P. O'Hara and E. P. Miller, Sick Visitors; YV. F. Clifton and J. Christopher, auditors. The Secretary brought up the balance-sheet, which shewed the society to bo in a very healthy financial position, and went to prove that where proper care is exercised in the management of the funds, a very small weekly sum suffices to ensure the promised benefits, besides leaving a balance for any sudden emergency that might arise. A sum of £200 had been added to the permanent account during the year, after meeting all ■ calls occasioned by sickness and death.
