MASONIC.
The installation of officers for the Ara and United. Service Masonic Lodges took place at the Masonic Hotel. Princesstreet, on Dec. 20. There was a good attendance of the brethren, including several from the country. For Ara Lodge:— Brother Arthur Heather, W.M.; Brother Bullock, S.W.; Brother M. Levy, J.W.; Brothers Wright and Posseniskie, S. and W. D.; Brother Rev. Dr. Kidd, Chaplain; Brother P. M..Rees, Treasurer; Brother P. M. Robinson, Installing Master, ■with Brother P. M. Rees, assisted by Brother P. M. Robinson. For the United Service Lodge :—Brother Redfern was installed W. -M.; Brother Bycroft, S.W.; Brother Holmes, J.W.; Brother Suiter, S.D.; Brother Goodacre, J.D.; Brother Hamilton, J.G.; Brother P. M. Burns, Secretary; Brother P. M. Batt, Treasurer; Installing Master, Brother P. M. Burns, assisted by P. M. Recs. At the close of the proceedings the brethren sat down to a sumptuous repast, provided by Host Avey, of the Masonic Hotel, to which, after ample justice had been done, several toasts were given and responded to. The officers elected for St Andrew's Masonic Lodge for the ensuing year, were installed on Dec. 20, at the Lodge meeting at Star Hotel. After going through a variety of Masonic business, the following officers were ns tailed R.W.M., Walker; D.M., W.Graham ; S.M., R. Barrett: W.S.W., Elli. son; J. W., Martin; Treasurer, F. Mf Hanson; Secretary, G. Payne; S.D., Cook; J.D., James McEwen; LG., F. Street; Tyler, C. Porter; Chaplain, Rev. D. Bruce. Most of these are re-elections, including the Right Worshipful Master, who has discharged his duties during"the year with satisfaction to the brethren, never having been absent from any meeting o£ the lodge. Past Master Malcolm Nicol invested the new officers. At the conclusion of the ceremonies the brethren of the lodge and the visiting brethren sat down to supper, after which a number o£ toasts were duly honoured. The R.W.M. expressed the great obligation which he himself and the lodge were under to Past -Master Nicol for the assistance he had rendered during the past year. A very happy evening was spent by the brethren.
On St. John's Day, the'installation of officers of the Lodge Sir' Walter Scott, 533, 5.C.,. for the ensuing year took place at the Freemasons' Hall, Owen-street, Grahimstdwn. Amongst those present were : Brothers P.M. Newell, of Hamilton Lodge; Waikato ; P.M. Aitken, Lodge Coromandel; and P.M. Young, Lodge of Light. At high noon the B.W.Mi, Brother Rev. Jame3 Hill, opened the lodge in the first degree, and called upon R.W.P.M. Brodie to act as installing officer, andP.M.s Yoiing and Newell as assistants. Brother Thos. Leitch Murray was installed and proclaimed the R.W.M. of the lodge for the ensuing year. The other officers installed • were: P.M. Alexander Aitken, "Worshipful Deputy Master; William Wilkinson, Worshipful Senior Warden ; John Fotheringham, Worshipful Junior Warden; Robert Skeen, Secretary ; John Emmersnn, Senior Deacon; William Laurie, George Wilson, and John D.--Murray, Stewards; J. Forgie and G. Kerr, Inner Guard; G. Pitkethley, Bible Bearer; Horace J. Weeks, Organist; Jas. M. McLaren, Architect; and Thomas Rawden, Tyler. Brother the Rev. .Tames Hill waa then invested with the R.W.P.M.'s jewel. After the customary votes of thanks to the installing officer and his' assistants, the R.W.M. intimated that an illuminated address aad a Past Master's jewel would be presented to Brother R.W.P.M Hill as soon as the jewel arrived from England, which would probably be about the month of March next. The absent officers elect will be installed at the regular meeting in January. The installation of officers of the Masonic Lodge of Light, No. 454, 1.e., also took place on Wednesday. Bro. L. J. Bagnall, P.M., officiated as installing master, assisted bv P.M.s Bawden, Climo, and Mitchell. The following officers were installed :—Solomon Mills, Vf.il.; James Patterson, S.W.; James Ferguson, J. W.; Charles Ahier, secretary and treasurer ; T. JR. Graham, S.D.; R. H. Foster, J.D.; T. W. BaJshaw, LG. On St. John's Day Captain A. C. Turner was duly installed Worshipful Master of the Tauranga Masonic Lodge for the ensuing year. The Freemasons of Onehunga have resolved to erect a Masonic Hall in the township. A meeting was held on the 4th Jan., at which it was resolved to form company for the purpose. The proposed building is to be seventy feet long'by thirtyfour feet wide.
