SYDNEY, November 12. At the Criminal Sessions the trial of Luxford, for killing his children at Penrith, was postponed until next session, on the ground of the prisoner's insanity. Henry Williams, charged, with the murder of Elizabeth Horusby, was convicted of manslaughter, and remanded for sentence. Fifteen cases of supposed tobacco, shipped to order under the signature " E. Nord, Melbourne," came by the b.s. Hero. No owner was found for them. On opening the cases, they were found to be filled with sand, it is supposed they have been shipped with the object of obtaining an advance from some Melbourne bank. November 13. The Premier, Attorney-General, and Minister of Lands arrived at Twofold Bay-to-day, and were escorted to Bega by a cavalcade of 200 horsemen. Unsuccessful attempts were made to reinsert the amounts for Victor Harbour and Port Broughton works. The third reading is fixed for to-morrow, a message from the Governor being necessary before it can pass. Mr. Boucaut will then raise the question as to whether the bill is in order, as it contains items included in the other bill, which has not been disposed of, the chairman in the Council having simply left the chair. The new iron bridge to cross the Torrens has been shipped from England. November 14 The Registrar-General's statistics for 1875 shew the death rate in the city to have been 3G in every 1000, as compared with 17 in 1000 outside the city. A barman named Franke attempted suicide by shooting himself with a revolver. He is expected to recover. BRISBANE, November 12. Miss Meredith, who was seriously burned on Thursday, has died. A mineral, supposed to be tin ore, has been discovered at the Hodgkinson goldtield. November 13. Robert Armour has been remanded on a charge of misdemeanour under the Insolvency Act, by making a false proof of debt in Medhurst's estate. The steamer Tambaroora takes 300 tons of maize for the Melbourne market.
