THEATRE ROYAL.—THE LINGARDS.
The vitality of "Our Boys" appears to improve rather than diminish from night to right. The house was crowded as usual on Saturday night, and the interest of the public ib not limited to one representation, for many playgoers are assiduous in their attendance. Mr. Horace Lingard's Perkyn Middlewick is' a portrait so complete in all respects as to require a somewhat critical attention to matters of detail to appreciate it. It is a study for those who will be at the pains to estimate separately the numerous, or, perhaps; we should, say, innumerable sources of effect. Miss Alice Dunning (Lingard) fulfils admirably a really exquisite comedy part as Mary Melrose, and Miss Laura Wiseman, as Violet, affords a delightful contrast to the magnificent cousin. The Talbot Champneys of the play is another most skilful piece of social portraiture. Mr. Holloway, as Charley Middlewick, Mr. Reed, as Sir Geoffrey Champneyß, are excellent. And, indeed, the vicinity of talent appears to have had the best effect upon Miss 'Lizzy Busch, as "Auut Clarissa," who plays the part with excellent spirit and effect. There can be but one opinion of the merit of this small but thoroughly talented dramatic company.
