In ourrepo t of the launch of the new steamer Te Aroha on Monday last, a<. the yard of Mr. Wm. Holmes, North shore, a mistake occurred in the name of the lady who chri-tened the vessel. Mrs. J. VaTurfc&m. lain of >ewborough Hall, Bexham, Northumberland,/ and not Mrs. Maugham, is the ■orreet name. The s.s. Jane Douglas, which arrived in port on Thursday evening, is about to inaugurate a steam service along the H a»t which ought to prove not only beneficial to the seulurs at w.iicb the steamer calls, but also' o uckl&iid merchants, who are in the habit of convtj-ioe K"' d» to the ports lying between Cape Bunaway atd Uisborno. Hitbert >it has bren found necessary to snip gooub by steamers to Gisborne and then tranship to the Email ports in sailing vessels or any other craft available. These return to Gisborne with the settlers' produce, wh ch is transhipped for Auckland. The Jane Douglis will avoid all this transhipment, as the intention of the owuers is to make Gisborne the terminus, and on their r-turn will pick up produce and bring it direct to Auckland, ihe service is oue that commends itself to th ■. notice of all those who are interested in the numerous settlements that are scattered on the Bast oaet. The Jane DougUsis an iron sorow stoamer of 75 tons. She was built in lraneilin by Messrs. Sparrow and Co., being launched in January of this year, so that she U quite a new boat. She is ntted with com, ound engines of 22 horse power (nominal), working np to ebout 50. She steams abut 3 knots, on a consumption of 2} tc s in the twenty-four hours. Her pass-nger accommodation is very good for so small a bo»t. She cm ttow away twenty two passengers comfortably. The boat is owned by Messrs. Bicnardson and <'ampbell, of Napier. She was built especially for the Host Coast trade. ABEIVAL OF THE SCHOONER JESSIE HENDKB3ON. This schooner, which has been away for abont nine months, arrived in harbour last night after an excellent passage from Lev uka of 7 days 8 hours. We are indebted lo < apUin Kobinsoa (or the following report :—"Left Levuka on <hn 20th Inst.; cleared the reef at 8 p.m- of the same d y, and passed Kandavn at midnight. Was favoured fr m the first with N.E. winds, which brought the veasel close into port, when it died off as the coast wa« approached. Sighted the Little Barrier at 2p m. on th-< 20th, and arrived in harbour at 10 p.m. last night." .the t rings several passengers, and a cargo of Island produce and fruit.
