SALES BY AUCTION. New Zealand Herald Office, August 25. Mr. L. TV. Eaton held a sale of Circular Head potatoes this afternoon on the wharf alongside the Vivid. There was a large attendance. They realised from £5 to £5 10s per ton. August 28. Messrs. B. Tonks and Co. held a sale today, and sold two allotments at Cambridge West for £S 10s ; one, No. SS, at Cambridge i East, £10 ; and No. 52, Kihikihi, for £6. August 29. Messrs. Tonks and Co. held a trade sale | to day of cases of American chairs, canned j fish, and tobacco, per the Star Queen, from j New York. The trade was well represented > and fair prices realised. 200 cases of oysters and 100 of lobsters passed the hammer, also I one or two lines of tobacco. August 30. Mr. Binney sold at his Mart to-da'y three £10 shares in the Daily Southern, Cross and Weekly Nexcs Company for £3 5s each, Mr. Warwick Weston, the Managing Director of the company, being the purchaser. Messrs. Sajiuel Cochrane and Son held at ■ their rooms a sale of fancy dress goods, the I attendance of the trade, and also of ladies, I was numerous, and the prices realised satis- j factory. Muslin ball dresses, 4s to 7s each ; j pieces muslin, 5s to 13s Gil ; lawn, 4id to 9d J per yard ; half hose, 23a to 2Gs per dozen; i women's hose, 31s per dozen ; pants, 42a to S4s per dozen ; drill, Is 2d per yard ; diaper, Is II Jd per yard ; white shirts, 03s to 99s per dozen ; singlets, 54s per dozen;

muslin, to 6Jd per yard ; Swiss dresses, Oi Od each; curtains, 21s to 40s per pair; table cloths, 9s each ; edging, 2s 2d per piece ; merino, Is Sd to 2a Id per yard ; mohair, 9Jd to Is 2d; serge, Is lid; alpaca, G.W to Is 7d per yard; homespun, 74<l ; prints, 4d to 7Jd ; grenadine, 9£d ; shawls, Is 2d to 8s 6d each ; costumes, 13s 3d each ; various assorted lots at good prices. September 4. Mr. R. Arthur offered, at noon, that valuable piece of property at Onehunga, adjoining the Pah Estate, consisting of nine acres, with homestead and outbuildings. The attendance was large, and, considering the situation of the lot and its quality of soil, either for a suburban residence, or for market gardening, the biddings were extremely slack, and eventually the lot was knocked down to the second mortgagee for the sum of i'sso. The other lots at Otahuhu aud .Newcastle, were withdrawn. Mr. George Sibbin's land sale was also well attended, and allotment 353. parish of Ngarotc, Waikato, consisting of 10 acres, realised £35. Allotment No. 28, 1 acre, Alexandra West, brought £45.

Mr. Binney sold a number of shares in the Southern Cross and Weekly News Company. | There were present two representatives bf i the Press, one director of the company, and one of an audience. The lirst lot offered consisted of three shares, and were bought by the director for £3 ; aud tha second lot of ten was knocked down to the same parchaser for £2 153 per bhare. September 5. Messrs. M. Jones aud Co. held a sale of skins, books, and general furniture to day, at their central mart. Kangaroo skins fetched Cs per lb. ; runners, 2s 3d : calf, 2a Cd to 3a 2d ; sole leather, la o£d ; and basils, 14s per dozen. The books, comprising travels, fiction, and periodicals, produced good prices. Se p tem ber 7. There was an excellent attendance at Messrs B. Tonka and <"!o.'s sale to-day. About 60 trunks of boots, and a quantity of furniture, wcro quitted at good priceß " September 12. Mr. B. Tonks sold a large line of maize, ex City of Sydney, to-day, which realised from 4s 4d to 4s 6d per bushel. The American tinned fish realised satisfactory P r ' ccs - I Messrs. M. Jones and Co., held a sale of books, clothing, produce, and poultry, at their Central Mart to day, but the attendance was not large. Fair averages were realised for the goods sold. September 18. . Messrs. S. Cochrane and Son held a land and property sale to-day, which was well attended. The Kew I.ynn allotment, situated in Waikomiti, County of KdeD, realised £170 ; allotment 11, scction 8, in the village of Papakuri, sold for £40. pation of David Hobs, subject to a mortgage of £250, at 8i per cent, per annum, sold for £350. September 20. Mr. R. Arthur's sale of produce at his mart this day was fairly attended. Bacon sold at 6Jd to 9dhams, BJd ; butter, 2d to 7d; cheese; 4Jd to 6id; potatoes, 5s per cwt. The sale of earthenware, ex Loch Fergus, from London, held by Mr. R. Artnur, at his furniture sale-rooms, was well attended, and every line sold at good prices.
