SCHOOL EXAMINATIONS.
DEVONPORT DISTRICT SCHOOL. The yearly examination of this school took .place on Monday, the 20th instant, presided over by Mr. Somerville, who was assisted by Mr. Bown, The test questions placed before the pupils were very satisfactorily answered, and in the various branches of an English education proficiency was shewn. The committee had provided handsome and suitable prizes, and these, supplemented by others kindly given by Messrs. Rees and Somerfield, were presented to the most deserving. A number of ladies and gentlemen residing in the district, evinced by their presence the interest felt in educational matters. The head-master was honored 'with the best thanks of the committee, and the school then broke up for Christmas. One hundred and forty, pupils competed.
