MR. TROUP AND MR. GLADSTONE.
= To the Editor of the Herald. Sir, —I have read with more than ordinary interest an article in the Herald of the 17th of this month, in which it is said that Mr. , Gladstone is engaged in a crusade " upon liberty of conscience." and on account o£ ; which, it is said, that Germany is delighted and the Pope made angry. I shall be quita 3 safe in saying that F. H. Troup has made a t mistake. Yea, and much more than a mistake. Mr. Gladstone's own words will bo the test, and, I think, the only test by which a correct judgment can be formed o£ 3 the truth or otherwise of Mr. Troup's imputations, and I hope that Mr. Troup will now produce what in justice to himself ia required, failing which something else ought to be done.—l am, &c., ' Constant Reader. i
