THE LATE DOG SHOW.
To the Editor of the Herald. Sir, —My attention being called by Mr. Greenwood to a letter signed by "Two of the Judges" in your issue of the 24tli instant, I take this opportunity of answering it ; also a letter signed '' B. A.," referred to by the "Judges." Your correspondent, Mr. A. Bonar, who signs himself " 8.A." in your issue of the 23 rd instant, in his remarks on the late dog show, confuses my dog " Prince," which was brought out in the Galatea, with the dog "Trip," owned by Mr. Dacre, of the North Shore, bred by Mr. Bonar, and exhibited by Mr. Ohermsidc, which is a M arlliorongh, being a black, tan, and white, although entered and exhibited as a Blenheim, —the dog "Prince" being the only Ulenhuim spaniel in the province, being lemon and white—the standard colour. With regard to the effusion of " Two of the Judges," all I have to say is that if they call a black, tan, and white Marlborough spaniel a Blenheim, which it was entered as, 1 full}' concur with their remark that "it is one of those things they don't understand." Now, for the fact made well-known to the judges through "Prince's energetic owner." There was no occasion for "Prince's energetic owner " to make any fact known to " Two of the .Judges," as they lon« before the judging commenced went round to the exhibits with a printed catalogue with names, the same as issued to the public ; let " Two of the Judges" explain this little "fact." I do not see the utility of a rule disqualifying any dog with a collar bearing its owner's name when such things as this are done.— I am, &c., S. E. Hughes, oun. Auckland, 2Sth September, 1574. [At the urgent request of the writer we publish this letter ; but it must be looked upon as the last we can insert on the subject. —Ed. K Z.H.]
