AUCKLAND PERMANENT CO-OPERA-TIVE BUILDING AND INVESTMENT SOCIETY.
The special general meeting of the Buildnig ami Investment Society, advertised to bo lield last evening, took place at tlie secretary's office, Wyndhain-street, at 7.30 o'clock.— Dr. Nicholson occnpicd the chair.—The object of the meeting was to elect a trustee in the room of the late Mr. Kattray, and to make two alterations in tlie rules of the Society, the principal one being in compliance with a resolution of the members at the last annual meeting, dealing with caf.ual vacancies in the committee. —Mr. John Roberton was elected trustee, and the amended rules were adopted by the meeting.—The President then gave notice that another special meeting of the members would be held on Thursday, the 10th instant, to provide a successor to Mr. Heather, whoso absence from the colony prevented his acting as trustee. It was also announced that in future the meetings of committee for the purpose of dealing with applications for loans and other matters would be held twice a month, as tliegrowthof business hadmade such change necessary. —The Secretary reported that the current year shewed a marked advance over the business of last year ; already more than 2000 new shares had been taken up, and the income was double what it was twelve months ago.
