PRINCE OF WALES THEATER.
He. and Mrs. Hos-kins (Mie3 Florence Colville) appeared at this tLentre last evening, and were greeted by perhaps tho largest assemblage that ha 3 been gathered within the building for some yer.rs past. Before eight o'clock money had been refused at the doors. Indeed every" seat in the dress circle had been engaged at an early hour of the day. The pit aud stalls were equally crowded. The performance comprised the "Morning Call," Funny Cbillinglon (Mrs. Hoskins) ; Sir Edwa'rd Ardent (Mr. Hoekine). Viewed by the light of a recent event, this pretty comedietta was very appropriate, and macy passages were construed to make point whether adiniseable or not under ordinary circumstances. It was of course exceedingly well played. The second piece was a selection from " The School of Scandel." Sir Peter Teazle (Mr. Hoskins), Lady Teazle (Mrs. Hoskins) This scene was well played, and at the conclusion of both pieces Sir. and Mrs. Hoskins were called before the curtain and received quite an ovation. Mrs. Hoskins read Bell's " Mary Queen of Scots," but we cannot speak favourably of the Belection of such a recital for such an occasion, however much we might commend the performance. The entertainment concluded with "Nothing to Wear." Xhe overflowing audience was a compliment (well deserved indeed) to Mr. Hoskins and Mise Colville, who in Auckland kept the theatre open for a year without intermission, for the performance of the best examples of the legitimate drama and genuine "English comedy. Mr. Hoskins' great merit is the thoroughly artistic completeness of everything he puts on the stage. The last performance will lie to-morrow night. Offing to the overcrowded house last night, only a limited number of tickets have been issued. The pieces selected are, "A Uappy Pair," a s?eno from " The Hunchback," to conclude with "A Conjugal Lesson"; to which we are informed a gmit " moral lesson" will be udded by wuy of epilogue.
