BOWLING GREEN.

The bowling-green season commenced on i Saturday, aud there was some spirited bowling. The ground, however, was not in a favorable condition, be ng extremely hard. I It must be confessed, also, that the " green" • at ti.e foot of Grafton Road does not appear to have been well maintaiaed. It is greatly out of the level, so that a straight bowl caii never be relied upon. Wo hope something may be done before the next season to remedy this defect, which must, if allowed to continue, greatly impede the success of the society. The somewhat monotonous —to a spectator—enthusiasm of the players was varied by the more varied, as well as graceful, " play" of some la !ies. We think the more frequent presence of this element would conduce greatly to the attendance ; as it was, there wen; but eight gentlemen present. We believe that a portion of the green wa3 iaid off as an a ehery ground. They have the bo.»s and arrows 3'et ; where are the lady archers gone ? A committee was formed at the annual meeting, with (he following members : —His Honor the Superintendent, T. B. G-illies, Esq. (President ; A. Boveridge, Esq., solicitor (VicePresident); committee: Jlessrs. T. Maeffarlane, W. Aiken, and W. Graham. We trust the committee will give some heed to the suggestion we have made. The game alfords a most healthful as well as delightful pastime, and if actively encouraged by those who pro fessedly delight in il, would induce a sutttcient number to become members, so that the green would be self-supp If the archery ground were also maintained, we think a greater number of ladies would attend with their friends and relatives. The Saturday afternoons would become extremely pleasant for those who, the rest of Iho week, are confined by the cares and anxieties of business.
