TARANAKI.
(PEO OCB OWN CORBESPOKDENT.) December 5, 3 p.ic. Messes. Atkinson and Smith have commenced their trial smelting. They blew up tVieir furna-o laat night, (Saturday), and it is said tKey intend tapping a 3 o'clock this day (Sunday). I cannot say that after their repeated failures that any scece33 is expected ; nor is it supposed that they will be able to run the metal purely from the sand without mixing common iron with it. If they can only start the work, eo as to get some return for the money the shareholders have invested, no one will be better pleased than those who have shares, but few here have faith, now in the work done by Messrs. Atkinson and Bmitb, who have fearfully deceived the public as to what they could do.
