PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS.

His Honohthe Sufekinten pent recently paid a visit to several of the public institutions of Auckland. He first visited Mount Eden Stockade, and was conducted over the various departments of the prison by Captain yre, Governor and Gaoler. His Honor made much inquiry as to the management and internal arrangements of the establishment, and expressed his satisfaction at the order, discipline, and cleanliness observable throughout tho prison. His Honor then proceeded to the Provincial Hospital, where he was received by Dr. Pliilson, Provincial Surgeon, and shewn over the various wards and apartments of the building. The efficiency with which this establishment is conducted lormed also the subject of congratulation, and His Honor expressed himself as pleased with the result of his visit. Leaving the Hospital, tho Superintendent visited the Hefuge for the Aged and Infirm and the Lying-in Hospital and Refuge. The Superintendent conversed with the aged and infirm, several of whom were known to His Honor in the early days of this Province as being active and respectable settlers. His Honor was highly pleased with his visits to the above institutions.
