Bev. Kewman Hall testifies, in Exeter Hall, that there is far less drunkenness in America than Great Britain. ' That is self-evident to whomsoever has the chance of comparison. ■ There is more drunkenness in Glasgow than in New York, and more in London than in any five cities in the world. The father of tho great Galileo was the first to invent solo singing, or the arrangement of music for a single voice. Before his time good music was only cultivated for the church, and sung in chorus. The experiment in solo_ singing was first tried in the house of a rioh amateur in Florence, and at once became popular, paving the way for oratorio and opera.
