HIS EXCELLENCY'S VISIT TO THE EAST COAST.
On the passage from Auckland to Wellington in H.M.S. His Excellency Sir G. F, Bowen took occasion to call in at Taurangaj traere he was' enthusiastically received by both Europeans and' Natives. 'The [settlers enter-' tamed him by a public dinner. His Excellency took occasion to ride out to the Gate Pa, so memorable iw ■ the history of New Zealand : warfare:—Subsequently he visited varions Native settlements, and was heartily welcomed by the Arawas; His Excellency promised to ■spend a portion ; of next- summer among them the Natives'were highly gratified' by the Governor's -frank and courteous demeanour, and appeared to* be'very favourably "impressed by the straightforward manner in which he answered all their qnestions.
