THAMES GOLD-FIELDS.
(FBOM A COBEESPONDJ3NT.) June 17, 1868. There is not much news o< impoitance here just at the preeent moment. The Weather on Morday and Tuesday was very stormy, in consequence of which no steamers arrived on Monday. The roads between Shortluud and Tookey'e Flat are almost impassable. If tho Government would lay out £10 and put a footbridge nt the mouth oftheKaraka Uroek, a goad road could be had along the beach. The s.s. "Halcyon, Gapt. Wing, arrived yesterday afternoon with pas'seneers, one boat-load were landed and the remainder had to remain on board all night, in consequence of the severe weather. The engines, &c, came down to-day for Megere. Hunt and Co.'s battery ; they expect the machino to b3 at work in about a fortnight. The Kuranui Company are gettinsr on well with the erection of thnir 20-stamper battery. Messrs. Fraser and Tinne are plying tin etampers, &c. The Homeward Bound machine is expected to start fairly on Monday next. I hear that the Star of the South is continuing to turn out wall. Two men's ground has been taped off the Dawn of Hope claim, and shares have been sold at high figures. To day Messrs rTunfc and Co., in excavating for a kiln, struck a new lender very rich ; it is about 9 inches in thickness.
