WAIUKU.
(fbom oub own correspondent.) May 13. On Monday evening last, the residents of Waiuku were afforded an opportunity of listening to a very instructive lecture on astronomy, given by Mr. Bamcr, of Auckland, in the Wesleyan Chapel here. Being a fine evening, there was a fair number present. Mr. Henry "Woithington was called ,uppn to preside, after which the lecturer introduced his subject by making a few remarks on the history of astronomy, going back to the days of Pythagoras and Ptolemy, and coming down to Copernicus, Galileo, and Newton. He then proceeded to point out the constitution of the solar system, and the relation of the various planets to the earth and co one another, although I am afrnid he here dealt too much in long numbers, which the younger part of the audicnce would find a difficulty in remembering. In conveying the thankß of tho audience to the lecturer, the Chairman remarked that the youthful portion of the community would do well to read a fow popular works on this important and interesting subject, believing they would find a vast fund of both recreation and instruction in so doing. After singing the Doxclogy, the assombly dispersed.
