PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.
Yestehdat the 21st session of the Auckland Provincial Council was opened by his Honor the Superintendent. There was a pretty full attendance of members present. The Superintendent's speech will be found elsewhere, together with a report of the proceedings. The Council meets this day at 3 o'clock. The session, though called before the usual time, and though necessarily a short one, will be one of great importance. Matters of the greatest interest to the province will be brought forward and discussed, and the chief of these will be the alteration proposed in the Waste Lands Act, by which settlers from the other colonies will be eligible to receive land in lieu of passage money. We shall thus obtain, as settlers, men already colonised, and who, like the colonists of JN"ortli America, who emigrated here and did so much to develop the resources of the North, will doubtless be equally valuable as settlers, and successful in working out their own individual prosperity.
