. . WELLINGTON. Iliere is little or anything to renorfc in v • neso transactions of the month. The goods m stock continues to be verv much in e L™ of our demands, although the absence of any dircofc 3"Ti has Baved us from to ° great an increa'a and enabled importers to ease off a portion of their stocks at better rates thaa appearances at the beginning of last month would hare led them to expect. As it is, th3re are very few articles Yielding an advance on cost charges, and for some timo to come importers will find it difficult to realise to anv advantage. * In spirits the ordinary trade has been done at a tiillmg decline. Mavteli's and Hennessy's brandiea are worth from 7s 3d to 7s 6d r er gallon. B.P Turn 3s 6d to -1.,. Case s i„, ia 4 cd . 1 W \ lak no uld torn, scarce. 1 Wines. -Tho better class of ports and sherries sell at a fair price, low qualities nominal. Teas.—Good congou 2s 3d to "2s 6d per lb., dutv paid, for chests and halves. Boxes 32s to 38s. Sugars remain at our former quotations, with fair enquiry for the finer descriptions of crystals and counter. Coffee.—Moderate stocks. Good plantation mav be quoted at lid to Is in bond. Candles.—A decline in tho price of this article has tafcen place, and they are now worth 13d to 14d with no apparent prospect of improvement. Flour.—Nominal. Our own stock is large, and tho other provinces appear to be in the same condition, and by frequent small shipments tend to keep prices down here. Chilian is worth £ U and colonial fcll 10s per ton. Grain.—Wheat has been quitted at 4s per "bushel and it would be difficult to place a cargo at a con. eiderable reduction on that figure. Oats are greatly in excess, are not worth more than 3s per bushel. The crap appears to have been very inferior in tho Canterbury province, and they are comparatively worthless in consequence. Maize—Not much equired after on account of the low prices of oats, and dull of sale at 6s. Butter.—Cured butter may be quoted at Is Id to Is 2d, with little demand, the low price of Austra* lian butter in Hokitika interfering materially vritli the consumption of our manufactures.—lndependent June S. *
NELSON. Flour.—Messrs. Bod aud ffounsell quote fine flour at £15 per ton; Mr. D. Moore quotes Redwood's best Wairau at £15 per ton; Chilian, £15. Wheat, per bushel, (ja; barley, Gs 6d; oats, 4s. LYTTELTON. Groceries of every description are in ample supply ; whilst we look for a limited demand for some time, seeing that the recent auction sales must have thoroughly stocked many of our traders. SugarsStocks are by no means heavy, recent fluctuations in the Australian markets have not affected our quotations; prices, however, should now advance, unless coasiderable imports should shortly come to hand. Teas are getting scarce, ivhilet Australian advices point to a decided rise on all Qualities. Coffee—Some demand has existed for this article during the past month, as is usual at this season.—Times, June 5. OTAGO. The want of activity characterising business at the date of the departure of the mails via Snez, gave place shortly after to a rather better condition of things; trade continuing since then moderately good, with a steady demand for town and country trade, and a full average amount of orders to hand for coastwise requirements. In the import market very little alteration in values or prospects has been experienced ; staple goods have realised maintained prices, transactions mostly representing current wants ; and, although speculative enquiry ha 3 been light, sales of shipments coming forward nd already to hand, have been generally made without much difficulty. The amount of imports has beon limited, consequently stocks are lessening, and though not at present bare, yet advices from all quarters being to the effect that shipments afloat for this_ port are extremely light, markets are likely, in the interval between the present time and the arrival of spring shipments, to he BCantily supplied witli some goods. With little of interest trauspiring in any branch of trade, it may be said of business generally that its present aspect and prospects are satisfactory. Credit is well sustained, and payments are punctually made. —Times. June 5. Messrs. Driver, Maclean, and Oo.'s Monthly Eepoit i 3 as follows :— Duitedik, June 4,1867. In reviewing our transactions since the issue of our last report, we are unable to quote any material change in the stock market. There continues to be a fair demand for store sheep, although transactions are being less numerous, as with the advanced season fewer lots are offering. Mixed lambs and store wethers are most sought after and saleable at quotations. In fat sheep large sales have been made for delivering within the last three or four months.. Eat cattlc are evidently becoming inoro scarce; and towards the end of winter we look for a considerable improvement in the price of both beef and mutton. Our sales have been as follows :— Store Stock.—Maiden Ewes, 17s to 17s 63 ; twOj four, and sis-tooth ewe?, 15s Gd to 16s ; eight-tooth ewes, 12s to 13s ; wethers, at 12s; mixed lambs, at 21l o 225. Mr Buchan Thomson, reports the sale at mayards' of a flock of fat wethers (Lawson's), at 103 lOd to 13s 4d each. Business in the stock an 3 share market has been tolerably active during the past week. Bank stock maintains its position as the investment most in request. There is, however, an improved demand lor other shares, and transactions during the past few days embrace a wider range than hare recentlybeen reported. In bank shares there have been sales of Commercials at last week's rates. Joint Stocks have advanced steaditv to 13, closing at that price. I further rise of 10s per share has been estaWished in Bank of New South Wates which are now quoted at 46. City's remain unaltered. Steam shares meet with no demand. Insurance shares aro also dull; sales of Generals e en made at 14- Paoifio3 2A-; and United at la 3, <-oal snares ale in demand, but the market U bare of sellers ;

For j bakers' parcels, £12 to £13 is obtained for silk dressed Adelaide, £;2 to £12 10s fcr town made. Adelaide wheat is nominal, as all the millers arc stocked for the present, with purchases made early in the season. Chilian and Californian sorts are out of stock. Melbourne telegrams report, sales of favourite Adelaide brands ol" Hour at £12 5s to £12 10s. Adelaide prices aro—ilour, £10 to £11 ; wheat-Is-id. The latter is reported dull of sale. The Aggie M. and 33ergcnstern, the last of the wheat ileet chartered for England, soiled during the past week. The demand lor oats and barley is fully met by colonial-grown, for which prices rule low. Candles—Tlio market is weaker, sales wero made during" the week at 12' d to 13cf, the latter for Vevas. Belmont at auction brought 12 ;d. Dried Fruits—Jordan almonds, sultana and oleme raisins continue scarce at outside rates. Currants aro lower, sales of fine new fruit privately and by auction at 4|d. liquors —There is veiy little change to notice, larce parcels of inferior and faulty lots are constantly finding their way to auction and glutting the market. Leading brands of bulk beer are firm, but second and inferior are purcliaseable at lower rates. Key brand geneva was sold by auction during the week at 9s lid. Old torn is still scarce, and worth lis to 15s 6d for best. Brandies unaltered. Oilmen's Stores and Provisions—Several invoices have been offered at auction during the week without leading to much business. Prime liams continue salable at 14d to 151, inferior, 10id to 12d. Cheese is inquired for; choice samples command lod. Bice. —Xew Patna moves slowly in trade lots at £27. Mi.l-dressed Java is offering at £23. Sugars.—Large parcels have been offered at public sales during the week. The Clara Sayeis' cargo first tried the market, and not meeting buyers, was withdrawn, and placed privately. Some parcels of Bourbon and Mauritius sorts were disposed of at £25 5s to £2S for ration ; .£29 to £31, for low counter ; £33 to £3G 5s for good, and £40 17s Gd to £43 for white crystals. Present stocks are ample. Teas —The shipment ex Slielburne is moving off privately at full ratts. The Venezuela is coming round from Melbourne, with the bulk of her original cargo from Foochoo. Imports to Melbourne, so far as the season has gone, are fully 2,000,000 lbs. in excess of those of last year, while to this port they are about 1,000,030 lbs. short. Our present stocks and two cargoes expected to arrive ought, however, to supply requirements until the first of the new teas come in, say about the end of August. "Wool.—Fortunately for wool growers the season was over ere the result of the February sales came to hand, and since that time there has been so little offered at public sales that there has been no opportunity of knowing the real state of the market. Unly odd bales, ends of clips, and fellmongers' parcels are now offering, and even on these there is a decline, ranging from Id to 2d per lb., with a very limited demand. At yesterday's sales, only "S bales were quitted, at the following rates : Greasy, 3fd to 7|d ; fleece, 12d to lS:jd; scoured, lOd to 20; skinwool, 14d ; handwashed, 10-Jd. Since the departure of the overland mail the Lochiel sailed with 1700 bales. The Queen of Nations is a full ship, and sails on Tuesday.
Sheepskins hare also declined ; the bulk of those offering are inferior. Scoured skins have been placed as high as 9J per l"o. Tallow. —Tlie market has declined owing to the absence of buyers for shipment, the quantity now coming to hand beiDg more than required by local manufacturers. At present there is no tonnage to bo had for Londoß, and until there, is no improvement is looked for. At public sales held to-day there was more disposition to operate, but at slightly lower rates. Fine rendered mutton is quoted at £39 to £10; second quality and boiling down parcels, £30 to £37 10s ; fine bright beef, £35 10s to £37; Eecond quality, £33 to £34 10s ; inferior, from £30 upwards.
Hides.—The reasons which hare caused a decline in tallow have also operated against hides, and a reduction of from one-eighth per lb. has in sotre cases been submitted to. The qua tity oflered today was abpve the average, and the bulk met a ready sale, principally amongst local manufacturers, at from 2to 3d for best; 2Jd to 2Jd for second class and medium weights. leather.—Shipments to England have been stopped for the present, owing to the demand for all desciiptions required by local manufacturers. Stocks are light, and all offering commands a ready sale at rates fully equal to last week.
Cocoanut Oil.—A sharp decline has been experienced during the month, and the vc-rj- finest white is now difficult to place at more than £34 or £3o ; inferior eamp'es may be had at from £1 to £2 less.
Coals.—We have no change to report in prices. Shipments continue io increase steadily, and, taking the Newcastle and Woolongong mines together, nowaverage from 14,000 to 15,000 tons week]} - . —Herald, June 1.
MELBOURNE.
In the import markete.to-day, business has hoen characterised by an extreme want of animation in all departments of trade. In breadstuffs little has transpired. Victorian flour is disposed of in trifling parcels at £11 10s. No enquiry has been experienced for Adelaido flour, though we understand a few small orders are to hand from New Zealand. We note an improved demand for candles, and and 10-Jd, duty paid, has been realised for Belmont. 01b. packets; lib. packets have been wanted for shipment, and we learn that as much as lid, in bond, his been obtained for a parcel of Brandon's, to arrive. A superior sample of 1866 Kent hops has heen disposed of at 2s 3d in bond. Bugars continue to maintain a heavy aspect, the sal°s effected being of limited extent. We hear of a parcel ot' greyish crystals having been pla-ed at £33 10s. Transactions have also come under our notice at £38, ?or brewing purposes in all cases; the trade, beiDg well stocked, operate with great caution. There is a fair enquiry for fine congous, in chests, at 2s 2d, which it is ezpected will lead to business. A few trade parcels of good medium to fine have been quitted at Is lOd to 2s 3d. A line of 100 chests of common congous has been placed at Is 3Jd. A parcel of scented orange pekoe, long leaf, has been disposed of at 2s 3d. Sales of fine salt have been made at £5 ss. Sales nf geneva, V. H. and Go., have come under our notice at up to 9s 3d.—Argus, May 28.
HOBAET TO WIT.
Ihe continued fine weather prevailing at the present season has had a BOmewhat depressing effect upon various branches of trade, and we cannot report business as having been so active as it was during the month of April. We have had but a lew days' substantial rain, and consequently agricultural operations aTe backward, but as the winter season advances we hope to witness an improvement in general business. The ship Humberstone has arrived, placing us in possession of full stocks of seasonable merchandise, which will, doubtless, soon meet with ready Bale. ~ e have no alteration oi importance to note in the state of the money market. Bills have been well met, and trade generally is tolerably healthy. There have been a few shares sold during the month, but without alteration in the rates just quoted. There has . een very little property sold since our last. Thero is an abundant supply of wheat in the market, and sales are difficult to effect. Oats have been sold freely at from 2s Gd to 3s 6d per bushel, chielly fpr export to New Zealand and Adelaide. *.nglish barley for malting has also been in request: p e Pnce has ranged from 5s to 6s 6d per bushel, vjape barley is only now coming forward, and is ,° r " ,? he priee ran e ea from 3s 6d to 4s 6d far bushel.—Mercury, May 2S.
IAUNOESTON.
In tlio import market, business has been-character-ised by extreme inactivity. In brcadstuffs there is little to report. "Wheat may bo quoted at 3a 9d to 4s ; the latter price, however, would haro to begivon for a pared. Sales of oats have been mado at 2a 4d to 2s (id for some largo parcels. Tho millers q aoto flour at £0 os to ;£9 10s. Q?here havo been a few shipments of grain to Sydney and Now Zealand during the month. A vessel for the former port is now loading.—Examiner, May 25.
ADELAIDE.
There have been no transactions in flour to-day. The prices are quint at £10 to £11 per ton. There is not much wheat offering, nor are there many buyers. The value is about 4s <ld per bushel at the Port. Inactivity in the import market to-day ia all that ivo have to report. Tliera ia little or nothing doing, and the few sales made arc not worth recording.— Register, May 22. I
