AHIPARA.
LOSS 03? THE CUTTER ALPHA. By the arrival of the schooner Ivanhoe from Mongonui at au early hour this morning, we have the following from - Ahipara :—On Saturday, June 1, early in the morning, a vessel was seen in the distnnce, which, on coming to an anchor, proved to be the cutter Alpha, of Auckland, McHugh, master and owner ; the wind afc the time was blowing from the and all despatch was used by Mr. Bowman, who was a passenger, in getting his goods out, and night coming on the natives left' oil' work, intending to resume the following morning, The master of the vessel, seeing the likelihood of a shift of wind, moored his vessel to a more sheltered spot, with the wind W.N.W., with every probability of its remaining to the westward. On the Monday it blew very hard from the is ."W., with a heavy sea running, and so continued, until next day, when, unfortunately, about 3 o'clock p.m , she parted her chain, and all endeavours to save she vessel proved unavailing. The cutter Alpha was a strong-built vessel, and well found in everything, 'ihe master of the vessel, with tne assitance of his mate, used all endeavours to save the hull, but in consequence of being jammed iu between the rocks and heavy seas striking against her, he found it useless, and was forced to abandon her. We are all very sorry for this sad and unfortunate_ occurrence, as it leaves the poor master in a sad plight, he having a large family. Captain M'Hngh speaks in the highest terms of the assistance rendered by the natives of Ahipara.
