WESLEY AN CHAPEL, GRAFTON ROAD.
The anniversary tea meeting in connection with, tlie Wesleyan Chapel, Grafton Road, took placc in that building at 6'30 p.m. last evening, when a large number of tlie congregation and friends assembled and partook of tile good things provided. Tlie pulpit and aisle had been tastefully ornamented with flags of various descriptions, which had been kindly furnished by the offieers of the ship Mary Shepherd, one of whom, Mr. Alsten, superintended their arrangement. .The tea tables were presided over by the following ladies, whose unremitting attention to the wants of their guests, was deserving of all praise : — Mesdames Mears, Lawry, Ewen, Stone, iSomerville, Burton, and the Misses Oakes, Wykes, and Green. Tea over, and the tables having been cleared, the l\ev. Mr. Buller took the chair and opened the proceedings b}- giving out a hymn, after which, the liev. Mr. Stannard engaged in prayer. The Chairman addressed the meeting in an interesting speech, pointing out the good effected by social reunions, and the drawbacks under which, the church laboured through its indebtedness. The Eev. Mr. Lawky then read the financial report, from which it appeared that there still remained a debt of £56 19s. lid. to be cleared off. The following resolution was moved by Mr. C. Artiiuk, senr. in an interesting address, and seconded by Mr. Copelanp, " That this meeting recognising with thankfulness tlie measure of prosperity, by which tbey have been enabled to pay a portion cf tlie trust debt, pledge themselves to renewed exertion during the current year." The resolution was carried unanimously. It was then moved by the Eev. Mr. Haepeb, seconded by the Eev. Mr. Beeht, and carried, " That this meeting, while ! thankful for the satisfactory state of the finances, cannot but regret that the visible effects of the preaching of the word of tlie Lord ill the ingathering of souls to the Church has not been more manifest, and earnestly implores of the Great 1 f of the Church the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the city and neighbourhood during the present year." Several other gentlemen having addressed the meeting, the Iter. Mr. Buttle moved, and the Eev. Mr. Stannakd seconded a vote of thanks to the ladies, which was carried by acclamation, after which the meeting separated.
