POLICE COURT.—WEDNESDAY.
(Before J. H. Home, Esq., .T.P., and J. Baber Esq., J.P.) DBUNKENNESS. Geo. Blackly was fined 20s. and costs, or in default 48 hours' imprisonment for.'this offence. BREACH OF THE SLAUGHTER-HOUSE ACT. Ebenczcr Wood was charged with a breach of the Slaughter-house Act, by living a quantity of blood and offal on his private premises, without being able to satisfactorily account for the same. Mr. Commissioner Naughton prosecuted. Bernard liced, a constable in the Auckland Armed Police, stationed at Newton, deposed : The defendant is a butcher carrying on business in the Newton Hoad. Between the Ijours of 5 and 6 o'clock I went to his premises, in a stable at the rear of which I found a large quantity of blood, a quantity of blood, offal, and a sheep's head. A carcase was hanging in the shop which appearod to have been recently killed. Defend-
ant could give no satisfactory explanation. For the defence, the defendant called F. G-. Clayton, who deposed : I lessee of the Slaughter-house. I slaughtered two lambs brought in by the defendant on Friday evening. Defendant brought in one or two lamb skins on Friday morning. Cross-examined by Mr. Commissioner Naughton: Defendant brought no blood from the Slaughter-house on that morning to my knowledge. The Bench considered the charge fully proved, and ordered the defendant to pay a fine of 40s. and costs.
