The clipper barque Novelty, Captain Austen, arrived in harbour at an early hour yesterday morning from Sydney, with a full cargo and four passengers, after a good run of nine days, fhe left Sydney on the 18th instant, and had heavy ga'es from the eastward round to the westward all across to the Three Kings which were sighted on Monday evening last. On Saturday and Sunday had a heavy N.W., and on Wednesdiy a heavy southerly gale. The only vessel lighted was a large iiara burgh barque steering west. NEW FERRY AND TUG- STEAMER. Captain Casey's new twin screw steamboat was launched from the yard of Mr. A. Duthie, Custom-house-street, at high water on Wednesday night last. She is a neat little craft, and the workmanahip reflects the highest credit upon Mr. Duthie, her designer and builder. She is intended as a tug and BiYerhead ferryboat, and will be ready to commence .work early next month. IFSIAIi TRIP OF THE'S.S. AIREDALE. "The ;trj»l trip of the Panama Company's e.s. Airedale was i&ade on Saturday afternoon, and proved in every respect satisfactory. There were several gentlemen on board, including Capt. Benson, the manager, and two or three members of the General Assembly. •The Airedale, under eommand of Captain Meik'.eham, well known as a popular and efficient officer, steamed towards Pencarrow Lighthouse, and returned to the wharf af'er having rounded Soames' Island, more than maintaining her reputation as one of the most comfortable and rapid steamers trading on the coast Xtl New Zealand. This is the first vessel belonging *o the P.N.Z. &A.R.M, Co, repaired in Wellington •harbour, and it is highly gratifying to learn that the :Ziece»flary work has been executed by Mr. J3. W. Mills, of the Lion Foundry, in a manner alike with •regard to time and workmanship, and at a cost which 3ms given the most entire satisfaction to Captain The same may be said of tho painting und< decoration of the vessel, Mr. VV. Tusting having accomplished bis portion of the work in an equally aatisfactory style? We should also mention that the fore-cibin accommodation has been altered and much improved. The Airedale left on Saturday night for Nelson, and, as will be seen by a paragraph elsewhere, she acquitted herself most creditably. The Airedale was laid up on the 31st Auguit, and the repairs were finished on the 21st September. The boiler was thoroughly repaired ; jiew plates and patches in up-take, and crown of boiler all defective; rivetß cut out and replacel ; .eighteen new tubes and several new stays put in ; new bearing bars and new flame plates in furnaces; aiew casing round funnel; new bottom tn waste -■team pipe; new plates and angle irons in coal bankers; furnace doors and stoke-hole plated, re paired, or remedied as required. In the en<»iue department the pistons were overhauled, elide valves pieced, and paced up ; spindles turned, and the trashes and glands cast and fitted ; plunges turned, and her bushes fitted ; injection cocks bored, turned, and ground in; guides for piston rods placed and retaced; steam winch boiler repaired ; several new aide lights Ca6t and fitte 1; new ventilation, &c.; — in fact, everything neceasa'y has be-.-n done to put ber in proper and efficient working orJer. 'Ihe engines made 88 revolutions, head to wind, with 16 to 17 to steam; vacuum, 27 on both engines, and -.very steady.— New Zealand Advertiser, Sept. 21.
