RUSSELL.
[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] September 22. Os Tuesday night, 18th instant, Mr. Stephenson's store in this town was entered, and a number of articles stolen therefrom. As a number ot natives were iu tho town that night, somo of them wore suspected, which has proved true, as au accomplice has peached. A warrant is out for the principal offender. Most of tho goods havo been recovered. Settlers generally are pleased at the sentences passed on aberman and Reardon for caitle stealing at Whangaroa, and hope it will bo a c union to others who narrowly escaped the samo fate. Friday, tho 2Sth instant, is the day fixed on to play the opening game of the season by our criske'i. club, when we expoet quite a largs gathering of players from the country districts. The club is to be reorganised, and the name changed from the Kororareka C.C to the Bay of Islands U.O , and will be an amalgamation of the several small clubs in the district. The ladies havo formed an opposition croquet club, and many of them play nearly every day th« weathro permits ; and I fear the attraction of their society will prove too strong for some of our young men, who. will therefore be deserters from cricket.
