THE ENGINEERING TRADE.
At a meeting of the workmen connected with the engineering trades, held at the C'lanricarde Hotel, on Saturday evening, 3rd March, tho following resolutions were unanimously agreed upon as rules of regulation in the trade. Twenty-nine ot the men at tho meeting testified their approval of the following resolutions, by attaching their names : — 1. " Resolved, that eight hours constitute the day. the first two hours aftir to be charged time and quarter, throughout the :emainder of tho night time, and half to be charged, with an allowance of twopence per hour." 2. " .Resolved, that v.hilo working on board steamers in harbour, time and quarter to bo charged throughout the day, and during the night time, and half to bo charged, with an allowance of two ponce ptr hour, together with one shilling per day as washmoney." 3. " Resolved, that while working out of Shop on stationery work, time and quarter to be charged during the day, and time and half during night, with an allowance of two pence per hour, togother with one shilling per day as w.sh-money." 4.. " Resolved, that, while working three miles and upwards from the shop, time and quarter to be charged during tho day, and time and half during the night, with an allowance of two-pence per hour, and "aixtesn shillings per week for incidental expenses, likewise one shilling per day as wash-money, if erecting rid work ; hut, if erecting new work, wosh-money not charged." 5. " Resolved that competent workmen's wages range from one shilling and three-pence per hour upwards." " feigned on behalf of the meeting. • " Jomf McKbggie, " Secretary
