HIS EXCELLENCY SIR GEORGE GREY.

TVE take the following notice of his Excellency's intended movements from the Wellington Advertiser of tho 28th Ult. •— His Excellency Sir George Grey left on Saturday oveniug in H. M. s. s. Eclipse for the East Coast. From what we can learn with reference to hia Excellency's intentions, he proposes to land at Tauranga, and from there be will proceed to Mnketu, from which place, accompanied by a force of friendly natives; ho will proceed through the country to Taupo, where ho will be met by a large body of friendly natives belonging to Wanganui—comprising many of the fighting chiefs—who will have gono up the Wanganui for that purpose. "When his Excellency has reached this point, it is probable that propositions may be made to Rewi and tho Ngatimaniapoto. A fter leaving Taupo it is possible he may proceed to Kawhia, and from thence to Auckland. Wo may mention that wo believo this expedition has been undertaken at tho earnest solicitation of powerful chiefs in tho districts named, Rnd we havo every reason to hope that its results will exercise a most, beneficial influence upon tho welfare of this colony. It is many years since a representative of Her Majesty could have travelled with any decree of safety through the territory ljing between Maketu and Taupo, and that he can "do so now shows the improved relations which exist with those natives who have hitherto been hostile or suspicious. Of course tho length of time tho Governor will bo absent will mainly depend upon circurostanccs, but we understand ha contemplates returning io Wellington as soori as practicable after carrying out the programme >ve have sketched above. We also learn from the same journal that his Excellency's despatches by the December English mail have not yet come to hand, It is supposed they have gone to Auckland.
