J-'dward John?on Fworn, paid : I am a draper, carrying on business in Queen-sticet. I know the prisoner. On t-'nturdny evening last at 11 o'clock I m issed a pair of stockings from my shop door. I saw them at the door at 11 o'clock, and I eawihem about ten minutes after in possession of Constable Foster. The prisoner was present when I saw them in possession of the constable. He asked if tho sockß produce! wore my property. I flaid that they were. The pocks now produced are tho same as were at y shop door. Their value is fifteenpence. Kobert Forsfer sworn, said : I am a constable in the Armed Police Force, stationed at Auckland. I wns near the shop of last witness about ten minutes past 11 o'clock on Saturday night. I obseived something falling from a window shutter, which Mr. Johnson's partner was in the act of moving. I stood by and watched nnd I saw tho prisoner step forward and pick up the socks now produced. Ho put them in tho right pocket of his monkey jacket and walked away. I stepped forward and apprehended him nnd brought him hack to Mr. Johnson's. I searched him and pulled out the socks from his pocket, and Mr. Johnson at onco identified them as his property and gave him into custody. , Sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labor. THE WAIROA SITTBDERS. Hori Taka was again brought up charged with having participated in the murders at Wairoa, and on the request, of Mr. Weston, the Counsel for the Crown, was remanded until next Monday, the evidence having only just arrived in town, and consequently Mr. Weston was not prepared to go on with the case. _____^_——
