TURANGA POVERTY BAY.

The following extract from a private letter handed to us for publication will give our readers some idea of the state of affairs in the Turanga district. Morgan has been in the Bay tins last three or four weeks busily getting up a Government party : he has succeeded in getting nearly half the Bay natives to join him. viz.:—Kahutia's lot, Big Leonard, &0., old Parutcue Potahi, Hori Karaka, und scveial other chiefs, but I cannot remember their names. They have erected a flag stuff en the point near the Waikanae at f urauganui, where they have hoisted the Queeu'd flag. Of course the Pai Marires and those who are opposed to it are in a great state of excitement about it. nnd have threatened to cut it down. Morgan says they will have to cut his heaH off first. There ii very likely to boa" bit of a shindy " about it. Sidney has also threatened to cut it down, but h:s not done o yet Old Lazarus has openly confessed that ho is a Pai Marire, and says that when Sydney and the rest of the natires who ar- oppesed to the" Queen's (lag (and yet not Pai Marire?) have donetelling the Government party to lower the U:n' and sfaif down, aud they don't do it, then he will go with Irs Hau-haus with guns and make them do it Mo.-aau nnd party are building a strong pa at Turanganui, and appear as if 'hey meant busineso. Morgan appears to have an awful hatred towards the Hau-haus, and soys that the mana of the Queen must and will kept up all over the island, so I suppose wo shall have a little sport with the Hauhaus hef re long. Wo a-e ab nit to have a meeting shortly, with a viow to assisting Morgan in getting aid from Government in the shape of arms, He , and live in hopes that the "ext time Patara or Kereopa pay us a vuit, to be able to give them a waim reception.
