THE WILLIAM MISKIN.
Tfth eL'j'Vior William Miskin has asain met with a i misfortune, after ha ving but just finished the repairs ] to one of her bnilers, damaged by tho lite explosion, and had just resumed her former trade. We have not the full particulars of tho accident, but the following in the latest account given, by the Sou/hlanl JS'ewt of the 28th and 30th :— " Monday, 0 r.rii- " The William Miskin, Godfrey, master, ran i. shore at two o'clock this morning. It appears that tba
Miskin called in, on her -way to Invercargill from Dnnedin, and uteamcd on to tho beach of the peculiarly situated bight, known as the Pilot Boat Station. Xt wag high water at tho t.imn, spring tide, and she now renwius quite aground, with her jibboom facincr the pilot's house. Sho appears to be in no way "affected, and will doubtless be got off very shortly, with but very little, if any, damage borne; sustained by the ship. "Bluff Harbor, Monday, 7 30 p.m. "Tho steamer William Miskin is alongside the jettv, discharging her cargo, which seems not to be damaged. Her hull, however, is considerably injured, and there is water in her fore compartment. The captain has abandoned her. Sho will bo beached below tho wharf, by this night's tide, for survey tomorrow, at 8 o'clock a.m., by I. K Watt, Esq., as Lloyd's representative, and Captains Thomson and Spowart. „ _ " Bluff Harbor, Tuesday, 28tli March. "The William Miskin was beached this morning, when it was found that a proper survey could not he mode ns she then lay, having all her cargo and coals on heard—her keel, where tho damage is presumed to bo, being too deeply imbedded in the sand. The veisel was accordingly hauled alongsido tho wharf this morning, and all the cargo discharged in thorough good order, with the exception of Mine hags of flour, damaged in being taken to and from the rocks to lighten the vessel. A later telegram from the Bluff states that a final survey was to be held on tho 30th, and a court of inquiry in the matter was to be held before the Resident Magistrate. Two professional gentlemen had been secured on behalf of the captain, to watch his interest in tho inquiry, which would possibly be concluded on Saturday last.
