PLACING OF THE IMMIGRANTS ON THEIR LANDS.
"Wk arc glad to see that the immigrants M'liO Lave arrived per ' ITclcrislce,' and otlicx* vessels during tlie last week or two, are to be at once placed upon their lands in the confiscated districts. The Provincial Government has called for tenders for the supply of provisions for those to be located at aiuku. It is intended that also at Pnpnrattt and TVaipa settlements shall shortly be made, and to despatch the next parties of immigrants there. In each of these districts there is excellent land, over and above the quantity that will be required for the settlement of these people, and wo would, therefore, suggest that as soon as the surrounding hinds can be conveniently surveyed in small sections of from 80 to 500 acres, that they should be offered to public auction—tliey would realise high pviccs, a fact which would be duly appreciated by Mr. Fitzlierbert' but above all, the sale of the surrounding lands would enable men of' more or less capital to settle where they could obtain labour, and would provide remunerative employment for the newlysettled immigrant.
