WANGAREI COAL.

/I hi; Bay of Islands coal was considered a mag(nilicent discovery ibr the province, but even that is distanced by the still more available mines now discovered at Wangarei—largo portions of the land through which they run having, we are happy to say, passed into the hands of ■in on! erprising gentleman of capital, an old and valued settler in the jS'orth, the Hon. Jlenry Walton, of Wangarei. Tho seam is apparently the same as that of tho J'ay eual, but is deposited in larger seams, is more easily got at, nearer the water, and sixty miles nearer to the city of Auckland itself. i\i r. They are in fact of the same formation and quality. A sample of the coal lias also boon sent to tho manufactory of Messrs. Yickery and ilaseiield for trial, but. owing to the fact that the foreman who experimented on tho liay coal is at present absent, they have deferred trying that from Wangarei until his return, when we shall place before the public tho result of the experiments made upon the coal by Hien:, m the i;«es of an extensive iron, foiuiurr..
