TE AWAMUTU.

[HiOJI orß UTO COIIIIESPONI/EST.] Decembero. | A r£W days ago an order was issued here that all tlio j troops in garrison would turn out under arms every | morning one hour beforo daylight uutil further orders, i but for what cause we cannot ascertain. This looks ' rather warlike again, I think. I was almost in hopes J that this sort of work had boon concluded, whon I i heard of such elegant terms of prnr-c being oilcvech j but this make 3 things look rather different. 1 suppose ■ they ore afraid of the natives coming upon us on a i surprise. And this evening another order lias been | issued and given to the garrison police, to this ' efl'ect. 1 There is a public road that leads past the canteen I through the Commissariat Transport Corps and up l to the 40th Camp, nud to pass this way tl.e troops • have to go across u bridge, and a policuna \ has orders now not to allow any man belonging o tlic : 65th. regiment to cross this bridge, but for what ' , reason this order has been given 1 cannot say. Our j old friends think it rutha - bard that such aa order is J ;

givon to stop them only; and another order was issued about a week ago that the 65tli regiment was to parade for balhiug every morning in tho fresh water lako, not far from camp. This is the only regiment in the garrison that lias received this order for bathing every morning. The other regiments aro allowed to bathe at what time they like. This evening a foot race of one mile was contested between Private Hudson, Commissariat 'Iransport Corps, and Private Gower, 10th regiment, for £20 aside, which was easily won by tho former named person. Great betting in favour of Private Gownon account of his winning a former race some time ago.
