To the Editor of the New Zealand Herald. Sib, —Allow me to bring before yon some of the impositions that are frequently occurring by the Maoris. I was coming flown from Alexandra, and being detained for a boat at Ngaruawaliia, thought fit to take a walk on the afternoon of Wednesday last. On my returning I was brought up before the Native Interpreter for trespassing upon 3raori land, for which X was fined 10s., or, to proceed under escort to "Whata Whata, there to be tried by civil law. I am sorry to think , that the Government of New Zealand allow the settlers of thia colony to be imposed upon in such a disgraceful mauner by the Maoris. J?he above laud was not in cultivation, but covered with fern. I was not aware I was breaking the laws of trespassing, there being no signs whatever of cautoon. How much longer aro we to be subjected to these annoyances ? I am, Sir, Your*, &c., "Wit. Watson. Bth December, 1864?.
