The ' Sturt' arrived hereon the 23rd ii-.st., having a large barge (the Cambridge) in tow, to which the women and children were transferred from the ' Piinee Alfred.' p.s. The ' Sturt' proceeded up tbe river (having (be same barge in low) at 4 o'clock the following morning, the ' l'rince Alfred' who sailed for Onehunga on Thursday, (owing the schooner' Darling and 'Nebuchadnezzar,' and tbe cutter' Glimpse.' A meeting was held here on Wednesday evening, R. O. Stewart, Esq., Bcsident Magistrate, in tbe chair, to take steps for tbe collection of a small sum of money to be distributed as prizes at Christmas, when it is intended to inaugurate such sports as are suitable to our limited means ; the meeting, which was nretty well attended, resulted in the appointment of a committed to carry out this design, and I have no doubt, wc shall be in a position to celebrate the festive season ill somewhat of an appropriate manner. The weather lately so fine changed or Friday moraing, and there is now a strong S.W. wind blowing. A good deal of rain fell yesterday, which was, 1 believe, much wanted for the crops. A company of the sCth Begt. is daily expected by the Prince Alfred,' steamer, to relieve the 2nd Bat. 14th Begt., stationed here, who are under orders for Sydney
