Londou, July 2G. The Bank of Englaud raised tlio rate of discount from G to 7 per cent., which caused a great decline ill public securities. The i'unds fell } per cent. The total value of the shipments to Australia during the month ending 15th July, show a decrease of £1-18,881 over previous months. Up to 2Gth July, twelve vessels had cleared. The exports to Melbourne show a decrease of £85,939 ; the decline principally is in spirits, wines, beer, malt, hops, salt, and provisions. The shipments to Sydney and Moretou Bay show a decrease of £49,-192 on the previous month ; Geneva and spirits in general are in. lesser supply, as also corks, metals, oils, and drapery goods. Tobacco nearly the same as last month. To Adelaide, the decrease in shipments for the month is £8,221. To New Zealand, slight increase in value over previous months. Several important shipments of cereals have been made to the colonies during the month. LONDON "WOOL 11EPOKT. The third and most important sale of the yeai - commenced on July 2Lst. The total number of bales catalogued was 1-12,020. There was a good attendance of home and foreign buyers. The prices realised were—• for ordinary qualities about the same as in May, Leicester and Halford wools brought an advance of fully li'd per lb. A continuance of the present rates depends greatly on the progress of the harvest and monetary operations. The rates will continue until the 2nd September. New Zealand 5 per cent. Debentures were oil'ered for competition on the 11th July. Onlv a small portion was applied for. The Board of Trade Returns for May shew 25 per cent, increase over the returns for May, ISG3. These statistics cvincc the extraordinary soundness of trade. The Union Bank of Australia declared a dividend equal to seventeen and a half per cent, for the year upon the old share capitil. The English Scottish and Australian Chartered 'Bank recommend a dividend of G per cent, per annum. The New Zealand Loan and Trust Company have declared a dividend of 2s. pei share. . • The Australian Mortgage Land Company's dividend is 5 per cent. Gd. to 2s on lie spot and for floating cargoes. Rice — Java, 3Ss., Rangoon 13s. 6d., Patna, 17s. to 21s. per cwt. Corn —Speculative demand for wheat, 2s. advance ; barley and oats, Is. higher : malt, steady. Metals—British copper £5 dearer, Burra £100 to £101, Kapunda, £104. Large business in spelter at £25.
