SYDNYY. (From the Sydney Herald, September 10.) Theke has been very little business doing in the share market this week, and prices rule almost the same as last week. The shares of our colonial banks are most sought after for investment, but as money is not very plentiful, the transactions are generally of an unimportant character. Steam shares are very dull of sale, and in order to ell'ect sales lower rates have to be submitted to. Coal Shaves are in rather better favour, aud prices, which for soino time past have been very low, are inclined to advance. T?ie following are the rates at which sales have been made during tho week : —Bunk of New South Wales, £43 per share; Australian Joint Stock Bank, £13 10s. per share ; City Bank, £10 10s., and £10 12s. Gd. per share; Australasian Steam Navigation Company, £'-0 per share ; Jllawarra Steam Navigation Company, £3 17s. lid. per share ; New South Wales Marine Assurance, £3 10s. per share; Sydney Insurance, £3 10s. per share ex oiv.; United File and Marine, 30s. and 295. per share ; Peak Downs Copper Mine, 255. per share.

Dkjjkxtuijks.—Government debentures are unaltered. Intermiuablrs have been sold at US and interest.

Business has been very quiet this week, and with the exception of the flour market, there is very little alteration to notice in our markets. The arrival of the English news by the mail steamer ' Bombay' has not yet induced any speculative transactions, parlies preferring to wait until they are in receipt of their advices. The Raiuiwick Races has to somo extent interfered "with business, and the sales by auction have consequently during the last two days been unimportant.

Fiouit.—Tho market is much firmer, and prices rule about 20s. per ton higher. Adelaide flour is quoted at £23 to £'2o per ton, and sales have been made to-day at £24. Tho arrival of the ' Peter' from Valparaiso, with a cargo of breadstnil's, has not checked this rise, the whole of tho cargo, about tons, having been bought by one of the millers, but the price has not transpired. The millers' quotations for line flour is still £24? per ton. Wheat is also lirmer. Adelaide is quotod at 9s. to 10s.

Candles are lower. The Neva Steavino Company of St. Petersburgh report having reduced the price of their candlcs to 10Jd. per lb. Tobacco.—By the City of Mclbourno ive have our usual advices, by which we learn there lias been considerable speculation in all kinds of marketable tobaccos during the last week. In Sydney (he market remains inert—nothing whatovor doing in the imported article. The following is from the Melbourne Aye:—"The indication of settled weather, which appeared to-day, Ims caused the import market to open out this week with more animation than has of l.ito characterized llie commencement of a week. We learn that the whole of the aromatic Uilmccos ottering have been purchased for speculative purposes; mid, as is usual when a command of the market is obtained by such operations, a very considerable advance is at once established—in the present instance from OUOto 700 packages of pounds and halves have changed hands, and, though the price paid has been kept quiet, we learn tjiatas much as 3s. Gd. per lb. is now asked for Matthew and Wright's aromatic pounds ; towards the afternoon there was inoro liveliness experienced in dark descriptions, and it is stated that an advance on rates ruling at tlio public sales lately was. realised.'

Messrs. Mort and Co. sold to-day by auction about 100 casks of tallow, at iroin to £20 10s. per ton.

A largo shipping parcel, 70 casks of beef, brought £29 10s. Hides were steady, and about 350 were disposed of at from &S. 9d. to 15s. each. Calfskins lUd. each, Hair, (iid. to 73d. per lb. Tallow —40 casks wero ottered, and taken at an advance on tho quotations of last week—thus : Beef, at from £2i) los. lu iiau 7s. (id. per tou ; atation, at. from £i!t> to £29 on. per ton. Hides; tho market is depressed, aud lower rates were accepted. Over i) 00 were offered, the bulk of which were sold. Four lots of lieavv were taken at from 13s. to 150. ouch. Prices ranged from Us. to los. Air. James Graham sold to-day by auction 11 casks of tallow, at £25 to £?7 10s. per ton. Mr. Brewster reports having sold 10,000 store wethers, delivered on New England after shearing, at Ss. per head, cash : and 25U0 head of store cattle, delivered on the Miimmibidgee, at. 'los. per head. The Sea Nymph arrived to day lroin Adelaide with 600 bags Hour and 1230 bags of wheat. Tho following table will show tho closing prices of our securities, as well as the rate at which sales have been made during the month : —
