ROWING MATCH.
The long looked for rowing match, for £50 a side, between Braithwnite, of Onchunga, and Foster, of this town, came off on Saturday afternoon last. A large concourse of people assembled on the Queen-street Wharf, and every vessel was crowded with spectators. A very good start was made at half-past three o'clock, both at first keeping even, but upon the fifth stroke Forster spi'nhg his scull, and for some time after proceeded with difficulty. Soon, however, another scull was provided for him. and he then pulled ahead well, gradually gaining upon his opponent, who by this time was some distance ahead. Braithwaite pulled well, at the same time seemingly taking it easy. Braithwaite came in first—having made tho distance in exactly thirty-three minutes. Forster coming in two minutes and a-half after him. The course was from the Queen-street. Wharf vound a flag-boat moored off the lower point of Judge's Bay, back to the Wharf again. A meeting was held at the Waiteniata Hotel on Saturday evening last, when the stakes were handed over to Braithwaite. At the same time a deposit of £'10 was staked for another match for the same amount (£'so a side), to he pulled for at Onehunga, this day week, by Forster and Braithwaite.
