TAURANGA.
The ' Sandfly.' which arrived in harbour yesterday morning, left Taurnnga on Saturday, shortly afternoon. We hear that, on that, day twenty natives came in and delivered un their arms, amongst which was the sword of the gunner of the ' Miranda.' killed at the affair of the Gate Pa. Four other swords also were given up, and the natives confessed that thev had been driven to despair l>y the starvation which they had experienced. The state of the rebel camp is said to be one of extreme desperation from this cause, and it is expected that manvmore rebels will shortly give in, and surrender their arms. Amongst the passengers was TTohepa, a native magistrate, who brings with him the credentials of Matutacra. the rebel king, and is charged bv that, personage with letters to the government. The steamer touched at the Jvawau on her way up, and took Sir George Grey on board for Auckland. Sir George was accompanied by Mrs. Pitt and family, and by Mr. White. Native Interpreter. Eisrht officers and ten rank and file have arrived by the ' Sandfly,' from Taurauga, and she also brings up three prisoners, the Serjeant-Major of the Defence Force, who has been sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment. a man of the Ist "Waikato Begiment. and another of the 68th. She left the TTawnu at 11 o'clock yesterday morning, and arrived in i harbour at half-past two o'clock the same day, yesterday.
