f Before Tliob. Beckham, Esq., B. M.J WILiTI. DISOBEDIENCE. John Hall, Silvanus Jones, Frederick Met calf, and Charles Avery, were charged by C'apt. Martin of the ship ' Golden City,' with having refused obedience to his lawful commands. dipt. Martin, deposed:—That on Monday last, the fo\ir men left their work and went forward. James Ramsay, second officer, deposed : —On the 7th March at a little before 8 in the evening, J was engaged with themen intheafterholdof theship. They knockedofi'work, saying they would do noinoro. They gar-emeinsolence when I complained of theirnot working fast enough. They did no more work up till their being removed from the vessel yesterday afternoon. The. men were each sentenced to four weeks imprisonment with hard labour. George Henry, was charged by the Captain of the .ship ' St. Magnus,' with having refused to go on lioard of his vessel. 'Prisoner pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to be imprisoned for four weeks with hard labour. LARCENY BY NATIVES. A native named Parakuiti, was charged by another native (Pene), with stealing from him a pair of trousers, value lGs. ' Prisoner pleaded guilty, and having been an old offender, was sentenced to four months imprisonment with hard labour. j Xgapuahi (another native), was also placed at the i bar on the.eharge of having stolen property I'n.m a native to the value of upwards of iX lUs. Mr. Puckey interpreted. Hemi KawiriTui Whanga (a native), deposed :—I am a sawyer living in Freeman's Pay. 1 recollect the 23rd January last. I went to work tit one o'clock j on that day. I left my wife at home in charge of my hoitse. I returned at four o'clock and found my '.vile, 'child, and property all gone. One blanket value £2 10s., two print dresses value £2, Ax petticoats, value .£2 ; also two shawls, value £1 18s. were tivken.. I have seen none of these articles since. I know the prisoner. I did not see the prisoner on the T6tA January, or the day before.
The prisoner diet not -wish to ask any questions. Rama, a native woman, deposed :—I am not a married woman. I know last witness ; have known him many years. I-know the prisoner. The prisoner was working at surveying when I saw liim at Kau'kapakajia. I can't be positive ahout tiie month. I ot tlie prisoner with a load, which lie put into a boat just leaving for Wairoa. I saw the bundle, it consisted of. petticoats and other clothing. They beJwjged.to Heiui and his wife. Quite certain of this fis-I saw the 'property before it was stolen. The blanket was of a peculiar description. Sentence on this case deferred till to-morrow. THUJKSDAT. MUNKARD.
