()*Xeill presi •nted a petition from re.-idents in Albert-street asking for compensation, and that sueh compensation be handed over to the City I'oard in lieu of rates. Petition received and read. Messages were here received from his Honor. Xo. oG contained the letter (already published) from the Colonial Secretary relative to the patriotic fund. Xo. ">7 with amendments on the South and Onehunija Koad Amendment Act, which was ordered to be considered to-morrow, Xo. *>K contained the City J)oard Act with amendments, which was also made an order of the day for to-morrow (Thursday). Mr. Hiurop then moved, "That a respectful address be presented to his Honor the Superintendent, requesting him 1o place a suliieicnt sum on the supplementary estimates so as to ( liable * the Clerks oi' Committee of this Council 1 to receive, the same allowance as was allinncd by the Council during the last session." Messrs. and (.'adman supported the motion. Mr. Sheehan thought, that a man's time was his money, and that h<» should le paid whether his time was fully employed or not.
