IN MEMORXAM. WEBB. —In cherished and devoted remembrance of my darling and only son, Sergeant Thomas Charles Webb, killed in action at Passchendaele Ridge on 4th October, 1917; 23rd Reinforcements. Left New -Zealand shores 1917. Not coming back. Oh ,the horror of it all! The la'st of the boys are returning There will be no home-coming of my darling son. . This is the day of sad remembrance to me; It is a day so sad to recal. Three long, long sad years of grief and sorrow Since you and I said our last farewell. I little thought when we said We parted for ever, and you were to die. The grief that I felt words cannot tell: That I was not in time for another farewell when the boat, left the wharf that day. Your voice I can remember, Your loving face I see, I hear the last words spoken, dear, The last 3'OU said said to me; When I recal fond memories, dear, Which cling to me from year to year, Of happy days now pas* and gonej Those memories sweet now dear to me; Though lost to sight I love but thee. Still shall I sorrow through the lonely years For in his grave is sealed a cherished heart. ___ With life's bright memories to the end Shall he live in my heart, my noble darling son — The best son in the world. In life I loved you dearly, in death I do the same; As long as life and memory last I shall always think and remember you and sorrow to the end. —Inserted by his broken-hearted mother, Emmeline Webb.
