All Sorts of Sport.

Alf. Fen ton, the world's champicm. sculler, was amongst the spectators at tiie Australasian Amateur Championships. He was" given a great reception by the crowd, when he made his appearance tin the Sydney Sports Ground. A stirring boxing battle happened at the Sydney Stadium on the 7th inst. There was an immense crowd of spectators—between 14,000 and 15,000—when Jack Green, champion bantam-weight of Australia, was opposed by Digger Evans, late of the A.I.F. The bout was pregnant with : exciting, happenings from beginning to end, the referees' decision going to Evans on points. Every round was great because hard' fought, and more or less evenly contested by vigorous,. speedy, and alert contestants. But Green did not lose his title, for the simple reason that Evans could not make the bantam-weight by 6lbs. . They make a business of their sport in the United States all right. Here is an item: '' Nig. Clarke, the veteran catcher, who finished the 1919 season with the Phillies, is- now the property of the Pirates. Barney Dreyfus obtained the catcher at the waiver price."

Cricket Jottings. • T.; Broshalian and A. It. Blank did. some effective batting for East Christchurch against St. Albans, in Christchurch, on Saturday week. They put together 232 for the fourth wicket, Brosnahan getting 122 and Blank 137. Regarding the taking of the whole ten wickets in an innings an old-time Wellington performance has -been brought under my notice. Playing for Karori against St. John's in the tnirdclass championship in the 1896-97 season, "Dick'' Spiers took the ten wickets for one run. E, M. Beechey, the Old Boys Club and Wellington representative player, has got into harness as a lawyer in Hawera. With him in partnership is B. : McCarthy, who represented New Zealand against "Plum" Warner's team of English cricketers that toured the j Dominion. ; There should be some cricket reminiscences in that legal office in Hawera in between briefs.
