Swimming.
Swimmers of all ages and sizes are striving for championship honours in •Auckland this .week. At the time of writing the results only of the first day's competitions are to. hand, the outstanding feature . of. which is the establishing of a New Zealand record for the 100 yards by Miss VioletWalrond, who got over the distance in 71.4-5 sees. This Miss Walrond must be -some; swimmer all riglfb. We have heard a lot about Miss M. Wylie and Miss F. Durack, the. New South Wales champion lady swimmers, and one hardly' feels: inclined to put Miss Walrond on the same plane as that pair. , Yet, in the Australasian ladies' championship meeting, held in the Domain Baths, Sydney, on; the 7th inst., the 100 yards championship of New South Wales re* suited:—Misa M. Wylie 1, Miss F,v Durack 2, Miss Venning.. 3. Miss Wylie won by two yards from Miss' Durack in 71 '4-5 se.es. According to: times, Miss Violet Walrond is as good a swimmer as . . Miss Mina Wylie and a better one than Miss Fanny Durack. Hearty congratulations to Auckland's young lady mermaid.';. - v . .
