Mr. Newell being compelled, on account of his health to retire from business, and Mr. Gwyun’s immediate return to Europe being urgent, the property, with its valuable business and wide connexion, will, on the above date, be put up to public Auction, conditional upon one bid being reserved for the owner. The Household Furniture and Hotel effects to be sold at Auction, or taken at a valuation, as may be agreed; after which, possession can at once be given to the purchaser. The Hotel Premises Have been erected about three years ago, in the most lasting manner, of brick, upon Scoria basement; and throughout have been finished in a complete and satisfactory style. The materials—Slates, Lime, Bricks, Timber, &c.—arc each the best of their kind, having been selected and laid down under the careful supervision of the owner. THE LOWER STOREY, beneath which there is spacious cellarage, contains Kitchen, Servant’s Room, Store Room, second Kitchen, and Draught Cellar. THE BASEMENT STOREY has upon it the Entrance Hall, with double doors, two plcasent parlours, a spacious dining room, and large Bar, fitted up with every requirement for the business. Two balconies cross the Western front of the building, and from them is obtained a commanding view of the City and Harbour. An eight-foot passage leads to the neat yard in the rear, where a deep well, sunk to the hard foundation rock, supplies the finest water, and where also there is a good stable and storehouse built oi brick, and iron roofed. The Business Is in a satisfactory and thriving state, having been established and carried on personally by the present Proprietor, who has given to it the most indefatigable attention. The House has therefore justly attained a hieh degree of favour especially among the established Citizens, whose patronage has been more cultivated than that of new colonists. It is peculiarly a
“City Hotel and Settlers Home” at present, but its convenient situation and domestic advantages could easily have secured the favour of the more shifting population, had the present owner been able to attend to it. Mr. Newell has hitherto carried on the business with little aid out of his own family, and now finds that it has become too large for him; the cash receipts at present alone averaging about £3,500 per annum. The situation is very central being opposite the new Court House buildings, and in the very Inart of the City throng and business. Further inquiries may be made of the owner on the premises, or of the Auctioneers, at the office, Fort Street.
