ANNUAL CONTRACTS. Commissariat, Auckland, January 22nd, 1861. rT’ENDERS will he received at this office until noon JL of SATURDAY, the 23rd day of February next, from persons willing to Contract for furnishing the undermentioned supplies, in such quantities, at such times, and at such places within one mile of the Barracks at Auckland as may he directed by the undersigned, or by his successor in office, during the twelve calendar mouths commencing the Ist April next, under the conditions hereinafter specified, viz.: PROVISIONS, FUEL, AND LIGHT. Fresh Meat 'j Salt Beef I Salt Pork | at per Bread pound. Biscuit 1 Mould Candles | Sperm Candles of English Manufacture J Firewood, at per 100 lbs, f English, at per ton Coal Australian, at per ton ( New Zealand, at per ton Common Oil, at per Imperial gallon Cotton Wick, at per lb.
The Fresh Meat to consist of Beef and Mutton, delivered in the proportion of five days Beef and two days Mutton, weekly. When Beef is issued, fore and hind quarters arc to be delivered to the Regiments or Detachments alternately. Six inches to be cut off the hough and neck bones. Mutton to be delivered in carcasses. Both Beef and Mutton (in the proportion above stated) to be issued in detail daily, to Officers and others of the Staff and Departments. The senior Commissariat Officer or Officer deputed by him to have the power of inspecting the live Cattle and Sheep intended for slaughter, and of rejecting any animal considered unfit for the use of the Troops. The animals to be killed and ready for the further inspection of the Commissariat Officer at such times and places as he might appoint. The Salt Beef and Pork to be of the best quality, each Cask to be opened and repacked at the expense of the Contractor and only the best pieces taken. Casks not to be charged for.
The Biscuit to be properly kiln dried and weighed off in bags of 112 lbs. each at the expense of the Contractor. Bags not to be charged for. The Bread shall be the produce of clean sound Whcatcn Flour of the best quality, and baked (24 hours before issue) in loaves of 2 lbs. each. The Mould Candles arc to be properly seasoned by being kept on hand by the Contractor for a suitable period after manufacture. The Firewood to be Tea Tree, or other hard wood, split and cut into lengths of 4 feet. The Contractor for supplying Firewood must have constantly on hand, at Auckland, in a place to be approved by the undersigned, or his successor in office, a stock sufficient for 14 days’ consumption, from which stock alone the issues arc to be made. The stock to be at till times subject to the inspection of the Commissariat, and all wood that is objected to at such inspection must be immediately removed. The Wood, although paid for by weight, according to the Tender, must be delivered by measurement, and stacked for that purpose by the Contractor on deliver)'; 71 cubic feet being considered equivalent to a ton of 2240 lbs. it will be optional with the Commissariat to bring Coal into more general use, and reduce, or even discontinue the demand for Firewood altogether, should such a change become advisable. The Coal (except New Zealand) when required ibf the Naval Service to be delivered alongside any of Her Majesty’s Steam or Sailing Ships, in Auckland Harbour, in such quantities as may be required at the expense of the Contractor.

These supplies to be delivered at the expense of the Contractor, direct to the Hospital Sergeants, at the Hospitals, upon the written order of the Purveying Oflicer. Each article to be of the best quality that can be procured. The Purveying Officers to have the power of rejecting any article offered, and if proper supplies are not immediately substituted, the Purveyor to have the power of purchasing at the expense of the Contractor. LAND AND WATER TRANSPORT. Cartage within one mile of the Barracks. Ditto from ditto to Onchunga Ditto from ditto to Camp at Point Chevalier on the Whan Ditto from Barracks to Whau Block House. Water Conveyance— Cargo boats capable of containing 10 tons'or 60 men Small boats capable of containing 6 passengers or 60 feet of Baggage or Stores. Small boats will bo paid for detention, after the first hour, at the rate of Is. per half-hour The Contractors will be required to provide such assistance in loading and unloading as is usually given by carters and watermen, and such numbers of carts and boats as may be demanded, failing which, the power of hiring, on account of the Contractor, will rest with the Commissariat, Articles lost, or datnarrp4 ittUqt, at per load of one ton.
