[From the "Alia California/' August 2D,] The day has been important merely as far the auction sales have been concerned, quite a number of those having taken

place. Numerous negotiations have been spoken of, but the record of transactions below does not show up any great extent of trade. In provisions, some movement has been noticed in laid, large sales of which have been made to arrive. Butter also was an object of inquiry, and some choice brands were closed out by holders. Flour continues extremely dull. Choice wheat sold at an advauce; barley at the usual figure, and oats the same.

Flour.—Sales of 4(K) quarter-sacks Alviso, at 9 dollars 75 cents; 150 ditto Vineyard Mills, at If) dollars 50 cents; 100 ditto Rochester, at 10 dollars.

Wheat.—Sales of 500 bags, choice, at 3 dollars; 250 do. and UN) do , at 2 dollars 90 cents ; 150 do., at 2 dollars rj2l cents; 852 do, Mexico, ex Carmelita, private.

Barley.—Sales of <wo bags, 850 ditto, and 250 ditto, at 1 dollar 2J cents. Oats.—l 7.) bags sold at 1 dollar 58 cents; 300 ditto, at I dollar 55 cents ; lOflO do., on private terms. Potatoes.—Sales at 80 cents to 90 cents per bag. BUTTER.—SaIes of 200 firkins Hulbert's, all in first hands; 342 firkins, various brands, on privates terms.

Sugars.—4o barrels and 25 half-barrels crushed, and 250 mats China No. 1, sold on private terms; at auciion sales, ex Jacatra, of damaged Calcutta, 502 pockets Bally V, 10 dollars 07} cents; 370 ditto ditto, W, 12i cents; 137 ditto ditto. G W, 12J cents; in order, Hi.ls pockets Billy V, Hi cents; 782 ditto ditto, W, 12J cents; 524 ditto ditto, G W, 12 dollars 45 cents.

COFFEE.—SaIes of 200 bags Rio, at 15 cents; 100 ditto, C R. 16'$ cents. Rice.—Sales by auction of 788 bags Patna, damaged, 3 dollars (12.J cents; 1000 ditto ditto, in order, 4 dollars 77} cents; fiOO do. Siam, at 4} cents.
